Katie Crews
Katie Crews was Miss Alachua County 2008 and now holds her new title as Miss St. Petersburg 2009. At the Miss Florida Pageant last year she was a Top Ten finalist and won Best Overall Interview. Katie is a senior at the University of Florida majoring in Anthropology with a minor in Religion. Since attending the University, Katie has become a proud sister of Chi Omega Sorority, a member of Campus Crusade for Christ, and is very active in many philanthropic activities. Katie is involved with an on-campus leadership program called "YLC", Young Leadership Conference, which Katie participated in 2008 and 2009 as a small group in a 3-day, student run, youth mentoring program for over 300 high school students. She was recognized for her outstanding leadership and was awarded ‘The Most Outstanding Small Group Leader’ award. Another passion of Katie’s is her involvement with the mentally handicapped. Katie has participated in events at Tachacale in Gainesville which is a state run facility for people with mental delays, as well her annual involvement with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida fundraising auction for over ten years. Recently, Katie has set her sights on implementing her new platform, "Green Queens", which promotes increasing awareness of the importance of recycling and a community involvement program that encourages people to partake in organized trash clean-ups throughout their communities and city streets. The goal of Green Queens is to promote pride in our communities and keep Florida, and the Earth, beautiful and green through recycling. Katie believes whole-heartedly in the Miss America Scholarship Program and the scholastic advancement of young women which it promotes. Katie intends on graduating with her bachelors from the University of Florida and hopes to one day have her dream job of traveling the world in study of foreign religions and cultures in order to create documentaries on the various beliefs of the world. |
